Women are we Born to Run- ADHM after thoughts

Image
Lalita Babbar broke the national record at the   Airtel Delhi Half Marathon by finishing it in   1:10:52 around 6 minutes after her Indian Male counterpart.   I wondered reading the news whether  she could beat that time. That got me thinking on woman and long distance running   , more so because of my recent read “Born to run” by Mr. Cristopher McDougall.   I have time in hand , nursing my ankle injury ,so catching up on all the literature on running. On the point of Woman and Man and endurance running Christopher has an interesting part where he talks about the research done by Dr. Dennis Bramble on Mankind and history of running. In that context he quotes Dr. Bramble   about woman and running. “ “Women have really been underrated,” Dr. Bramble said. “They’ve been evolutionarily shortchanged. We perpetuate this notion that they were sitting around waiting for the men to come back with food, but there’s no reason why women couldn’t be pa...

113 days countdown and update

Work is suddenly back to being crazy again. And I feel so tired by the end of day and to add to it's the muscle soreness. So I really don't have the energy too write much and  the update is short … today I did some cardio on the elliptical and burned a cool 421 calories in just 30 minutes. Yay!!!!!. There some interesting locker room conversation that I wanted to share so that I will do tomorrow when I am well rested. Have a great weekend ahead and god bless Love YM

114 days countdown and workout update

Today was the designated cardio day but work happened and didn't get to the gym in the morning........ Ok wait up before you nod your head again and say there goes her commitment.......I made it to the gym in the evening and better still skipped the cardio and got Nash to train lower body  and abs. Most of the moves were plyometrics so that compensated for the cardio as well. So we did jumping lunges, then squat jumps, mountain climbers, pushups with knee to elbow move (don't know what that's called)  , machine assisted shoulder press, and kettle bell lateral raises(8kg) all of which were 3sets  each Then we did some abs, which was in and outs,v twists and leg climbers also 3 sets of each. That was today's session, and then we stretched. I have to say the stretches that Nash makes me do our really good  and he actually made me realize that I am tighter on the right leg. He said that may be I use that leg when standing on heels to compensate. That's good observatio...

115 days to the marathon and workout update

115 days to the Bangalore half marathon, and I plan to share my workout each day till D-day. Today was workout session with Nash. My legs were pretty beat from Mondays days session with Nash and the cardio yesterday. And when I mean beat, I was walking around like a zombie all day. So I told Nash about it and he said well then plan was to work arms , back and of course core. So I am happy that he knew I would be sore even before I told him .... That's good. So we worked arms and back, that were pretty unique n, nothing like I have done before. Its amazing how much fun workouts are if the trainee u have the same wavelength of communication. So I am kind of liking working out the gym no... Actual look forward to it. I know its to early to pass a judgment but Nash is great trainer, unlike some of the Boohoo s at golds gym who call themselves trainer. The other interesting part is that he has done the P90x and is a huge fan of GSP (George St. Piers of Rushfit) so he knows where I a...

Workout Updates - The Jillian DVD Rotation

Image
This is gonna be a quick post .The last post I mentioned how I have changed the workout schedule and I happy that I made this change. The muscles are sore; I feel worked and love the pace. Jillian is a true task master and circuit trainings are amazing because you work multiple muscle groups at the same time with zero rest. There is so much packed in the 30 min or 50 min workouts that you achieve more in lesser time. Trying new dvds to workout at home has made me realize that I like fast paced workouts and circuit trainings works best on my body. Guess we all have things that work for us and some that don’t so whenever you chose a workout routine try everything and when you find something that works for you stick to it. Just a quick reminder of the schedule DAY 1 – 6W6P LEVEL 1 DAY 16 6W6P LEVEL 2 DAY 2 - 6W6P LEVEL 1 DAY 17 - NO MORE TROUBLE ZONES DAY 3 - NO MORE TROUBLE ZONES DAY 18 – 6W6P: LEVEL 1 & 2 DAY 4 - 6W6P LEVEL 2 DAY 19 - NO MORE TROUB...

A week of GSP Rushfit and Eating Right

In my last post I mentioned how I am back to my workouts .What goes hand in hand with workouts is eating right and an almost clean diet. Its suprising how I always end up eating right when I workout. Rushfit  is good and has been taxing and some points have lost most of  cause months of binging has messed the endurance I built. Like I mentioned in my last post I am following the intermediate schedule and this is what the 1st week looked like Day1: Strenght and Endurance workout DVD Day2:Abdominal Strenght and Core Conditioning DVD Day3:Cardio + Stretch and Flexibility bonus DVD Day4:Strenght and Endurance workout DVD Day5:Cardio + Balance and Agility bonus DVD Day6: Full Body Strenght Conditioning For Cardio I did the Brazil Butt Lift Cardio Axe on one day and 4 kilometer walk on Day 5. As much as I would have loved to follow the advanced schedule I realized my body wasnt up to it yet. May be the next time I do this I will follow the advanced...

Dan Browns Inferno has got me hooked on Dante's "Divine Comedy", though I certainly want to hurl Inferno in the garbage or at Dan Brown because its a terrible read. I think the writer has lost his brilliance( more of that some other time). So coming back  to Divine Comedy, for those who aren't aware, it  is  Dante's epic poem about his journey from  hell to paradise. Inferno (the first part )in Italian stands for hell and Dante describes it as nine circles beneath the Earth. So what has all this got to do with me or my health journey. Well according to Dante if I don't stop I will rot in the the third circle which is gluttony . This is for those who overindulge in food and drinks or any other form of addiction. These past days for me has been my journey into hell, with tireless eating and binging of everything unhealthy and junk., cookies, doughnuts, biryani, pizza....you name it and I have eaten it. I actually cringe while writing this, and I am burd...

The Rushfit Sabbatical

Image
A lot of you are wondering why there havent been any updates on the Rushfit schedule.  To be honest the schedule died a slow death due to vacation and other urgent household issues (not important). As much as I would have loved to be bikini ready this month, I dont think I can flaunt myself in one.So in comes the loose fitting linnen pants and tops to hide the fat. Not if I want the world to see the ugly tire hanging around and the oh so not loving love handles. Its a wonder how I can compensate  my guilt of not working out with eating or more approriately hoarding myself with unhealthy fattening stuff. I certainly need to work on my food addiction or should I call it emotional eating (a issue I need to deal with soon). The baking project isnt helping unless I start working on making goodies but healthy alternatives. Need to get hubby dearest to buy that oven soon I keep telling myself to stop hurting myself with binging but to no vain. The only good thing is I hav...

Day 3 – RushFit- Strength and Endurance Workout DVD

Like I mentioned on Day1 this dvd was supposed to be the first workout but I messed up the so the schedule so Day 3 it was. It was tough especially after the Banish Fat yesterday.   Seriously all the time during the workout I just wanted someone to give me a huge thud on head   for a couple reasons. One I messed up with the schedule, the calendar was placed a certain way so   you can do it and work different muscle groups and not over load one. Two I’ve been messing up diet big time, eating late breakfast, skipping lunches and hungry at all the wrong time. And that’s why when I do my workouts I feel light headed.Today before the workout I had 3 huge scoops of icecream, though it help me work better, but it just made matters worse. I wanted to throwup. God just hit me on the head and help me eat clean and right. Not to mention consuming enough water. So to sum it up the workout was taxing but I got through it and hoping that tomorrow is going to be a better ...

Day 2 RushFit – Cardio + Stretch and Flexibility

Day 2 RushFit – Cardio + Stretch and Flexibility Today’s workout can be summed with 2 quotes “Nothing comes for free” Jillian and “muscles are like elastic if you pull at it when it’s cold it snaps” George. It was day for cardio of my choice and I chose “Banish Fat Boost metabolism “by Jillian Michaels. Its 56 minutes long including the cool down. This workout I have done so many times especially in the 2009 when I had a huge weight loss goal. And when I started off today I thought, this aint tough I have done it a million times but boy was I wrong. Jillian Michael grinds you to paste in this cardio blast.   It reminded me how unfit I still was but in a good way and I pushed myself, got uncomfortable so I reach the end . Of course I had to modify a couple of the moves, however when I do this the second time over I will make sure I do the advance version of all the moves.   Rushfit recommends a Cardio of 30 minutes in the first 4 weeks, but the bad ass that I am I decided...

Day 1 - Georges St-Pierre 'Rushfit' Workout Program

Yesterday marked the beginning of Georges St-Pierre 'Rushfit' Workout Program. After almost zero workouts for the past 2 months, it wasn't as bad as I thought. George is a MA fighter and the workout is based on his workout for fights which is designed by his Trainer Erick Owings. I chose to do the advanced calendar, merely because I wanted to up my game from the last time. The workout guide provides you a way to assess yourself to decide on which calendar to workout. I still wanted to do the advanced instead of the beginners or intermediate. This is tough love for myself and little bit of craziness. I have of course done all the things that the workout guide asks you to do like the pics and assessment of stats and also the assessment, will post that here soon.  This is how the Week 1 looks like Day 1: Strength and Endurance Workout DVD Day 2: Cardio + Stretch and Flexibility Bonus DVD Day 3: Abdominal Strength and Core Conditioning (AM) + Balance & Agility B...

Round 2 Body Revolution Week 1, and 2

This week was a organizing week as I got to organizing my 2013. It involved getting chore lists done, planning work stuff, a study timetable and also some uncluttering work. I feel a little more in control of my work and home and life in general.   So the lack of post for the two weeks. This post is about how Round 2 of Body Revolution has been. I love this workout because even though it’s my second go at it, it still leaves me breathless .To recap, week 1 and 2 was Workout 1 ,Workout 2 and   Cardio 1     one day each and then you repeat the same schedule for next 3 days. Week 2 follows the same routine as Week 1. These workouts left me sore because from the last time I did it, I have upped my weights.   Workout 1 is a lot more difficult than Workout2 and Cardio 1 still kicked my ass. For an advanced fitness level I would recommend that they either skip week 1 and 2 or add other workouts with it because it is targeted for the more unfit lot like me. J...
