Not Drinking Enough Water - Are you Stupid?

Image
The title of the blog is no pun intended. A study revealed that even a little dehydration can decrease your mental acuity by as much as 30%. That explains a lot of the stupid decisions that I have been making. Seriously,I am not joking. I have been told a zillion  times by health practioners, trainers, parents friends and tons of people to drink water and keep mysel hydrated. all to deaf ears, that also can be blamed to dehydration cause I have to be stupid not to take up such a simple advice. Back to the research I came up on it by chance while reading a book where the author decided to develop the habit of drinking water when he read about this. So I had to do some research of my own....the google god of course comes to rescue as usual. Here is what I found from the tons of results " The Brain is 85% water. Optimal brain function depends on water and lots of it. Water is what keeps the brain signals going. When the quality of water is compromised the signals...

Thank you 2014

Season Greetings all my lovely readers J I know it’s been a long period of silence before this post and I am sure someone out there must have missed it. Let me be honest, I was lazy to go on writing. But I am back again to write the last post for the year. A year has gone by and what a year it has been so a warm hug to you 2014. There were times of frustration, smiles, laughter, tears and a truck load of excitement. This year has been the most fulfilling year for my fitness goals. I discovered running this year and may I say I have fallen in love with it. A proof of this undying love is taking part in a bunch of marathons. It started with the Puma Urban Stampede (5K run), then came The Bull run(16Km trail run up Nandi hills)    and then it was followed by the 10K Kaveri trail Marathon . This year also saw me run my first ever half marathon (21Km)   at the very first Bangalore Marathon   and I ended the year with another 21Km at the Bangalore Midnight Marathon. ...

113 days countdown and update

Work is suddenly back to being crazy again. And I feel so tired by the end of day and to add to it's the muscle soreness. So I really don't have the energy too write much and  the update is short … today I did some cardio on the elliptical and burned a cool 421 calories in just 30 minutes. Yay!!!!!. There some interesting locker room conversation that I wanted to share so that I will do tomorrow when I am well rested. Have a great weekend ahead and god bless Love YM

Another year of blogging or may be not

So another year has gone by and this marks the second year of this blog.  I haven't done much of blogging this year because of my work schedule and partly due to laziness. But I am trying to make some more positive changes as I complete being 35(that's half way through considering an average life span of 70) and what better way than the blog. In my last blog I promised to be more regular, but failed. I ain't making excuses but the time I get home all I want do is hit the bed. So tired after work and driving through horrendous Bangalore traffic. I know people live busier schedule and still find time to do stuff, including blogging. OK enough of the rant...... Time to share some good news and new goals for the year......(I know its been 6 months of 2014) though for me the health goals have always been from July to June (birth month u see). So on with it I plan to run in Marathons this year and I have already signed up for it. There is the 5k Puma Urban Stampede, then there i...

Look what the cat dragged in

Hello , look what the cat dragged in ...Me.... Wow its been over 6 months from the last post and of course a year has flown by. So without much adieu "haapy new Year" to all my readers and blogging friends.I know its weird to wish you'll mid of April, but what the hell. I missed you'll too.The million dollar question would be where were u and the answer is simple work and more work. The last blog I mentioned about the new job and while its been good but crazy busy . Natuarally I fell of the health wagon because of the constant travels and and vicious deadlines on projects. I know that is just an excuse and there isnt one that is good enough for all the bad eating and not taking out time to be healthy.Hmmmm...but did I realize somewhere along the line that I needed to fix it....Did I????????? Well as always I needed a jolt and that I got with my blood work. I got a ton of test done to see how my body was doing....the result . A high body fat percentage and cholestro...

Fitness Inspiration – The Workout Mamma

Image
I am usually scrounging the net for fitness blogs and enthusiasts, checking out personal weight loss journeys. And mostly my searches are for postpartum weight loss. In one such search I found the blog , ’The Workout Mamma’ . I was impressed by the posts and certainly wanted to read the beginning which led me to the about section. I was in for a shock, for here I met the beautiful Tamara . Her blog describes her as Christ follower wife to a firefighter, mother to Cadden, personal trainer, blogger and yoga Instructor.. But what makes her a true inspiration is way beyond all these titles. Her story is that of woman who is fighter. Her exceptional journey of fighting paralysis and getting back to being fit truly left all my excuses at shame. I sat at my desk reading her incredible recovery story, one straight read for a hour . It felt like I was reading fiction, but it was real. I had tears in my eyes when I read certain sections and smiles when I reached the end. The one question...

Happy Post

This is a happy post cause I wanted to  share some happiness. When I started the blog I mentioned how I was stuck in a rut professionally and needed to make some changes. The big news is that I have a new job,  professionally excellent and  its a big move getting me closer to my dream role. I have never confessed but I am ambitious and power and the corner glass room excites me. For a while I have been lazy and the fire within had kind off quitened but with this news its back again in full blaze. I am enjoying some last quite moments in my present job so I am fully charged for the new challenge. The other happiness is weight wise I have dropped another 2 kgs so I am getting closer to my goal weight slowly .I was so thrilled to se the scale move, alas the hardwork is paying off. Jillian this wouldnt be possible without you  so a big thank you This month was also my birthday month and age wise I have moved on to the big 35. The birthday itself was amazing because...

A year of being yummy mummy

It’s been a year of blogging and what a wonderful one . Last year when I started this blog the one thing I set out to achieve was to start loving myself again. Of course there were a list a list of things to do but all of it led to that one mission of looking in the mirror and not hating the reflection. I also realized that is not just me wanting to be a yummy mummy for my princess but for me. Well one might say is it really that difficult to love oneself. Maybe not for everyone but for me it has been one uphill journey. It still is because I have my days of self-loathing and anger. Somewhere along the way of being a daughter, wife, mother I lost my identity and respect.   Today I have come a long way from that point. There are good days and bad but the best part is after a bad day I get up and start from where I left. The confidence is back and so has the feeling of warmth to myself.   I have lost weight but gained strength and fitness and a ton of confidence. I feel I ...

No Junk June

Image
June is a beautiful month cause in India it brings respite from the awfully hot summers. It marks the beginning of the monsoons, lovely breeze and Mother Nature bringing in the greens. This has always been my favorite season because I love the rains, getting wet in the showers brings me immense joy. This is also the month when cravings are at its peak and all one wants to do is lounge around and enjoy the weather with some mouthwatering pakoras (deep fried snack) and piping hot chai (Indian tea). And from my last post you must have realized that my tolerance level for carving has reached zero. So the beginning of this month I decide that I needed to get of the gluttony vehicle and get back on my fitness journey, so this month is the No Junk June.   So what is junk, Merriam Webster defines junk food as “food that is high in calories but low in nutritional content, or something that is appealing or enjoyable but of little or no real value”. What really stuck was the phra...

Forgive me for I have sinned.....

Dan Browns Inferno has got me hooked on Dante's "Divine Comedy", though I certainly want to hurl Inferno in the garbage or at Dan Brown because its a terrible read. I think the writer has lost his brilliance( more of that some other time). So coming back  to Divine Comedy, for those who aren't aware, it  is  Dante's epic poem about his journey from  hell to paradise. Inferno (the first part )in Italian stands for hell and Dante describes it as nine circles beneath the Earth. So what has all this got to do with me or my health journey. Well according to Dante if I don't stop I will rot in the the third circle which is gluttony . This is for those who overindulge in food and drinks or any other form of addiction. These past days for me has been my journey into hell, with tireless eating and binging of everything unhealthy and junk., cookies, doughnuts, biryani, pizza....you name it and I have eaten it. I actually cringe while writing this, and I am burd...

Mindful May

Image
Summer at its peak and heat strokes, all you want to do is sit at home and drink loads of iced cola’s. Last thing on your mind is to exercise, god who wants the extra sweat when you are already dripping buckets because of the terrible heat waves.    This month is also the month that most people have completely worn out their New Year resolutions and have gotten back to being their old selves, giving up all the good changes that they made and settled into previous habits ….No exercise, junk eating, no self-control , smoking and all the jazz. Really what most of us need is a jolt and fight this wave of getting to comfortable and renew our New Year Resolutions, to practice Mindfulness. Mayo Clinic explains mindfulness as “The act of being intensely aware of what you're sensing and feeling at every moment — without interpretation or judgment. “ How can you practice mindfulness? There are loads of simple techniques but I prefer to do it while working out. So her...

Yummylicious Moms in Bollywood

Image
When   I picked this month’s prevention magazine at the stand I was shocked to see Shilpa Shetty on the cover not so much on seeing her but more on how super-hot she looked. And I was like what the hell, wasn't it a few months back that she looked plum and cute with all the baby fat. Where did all that go, and convinced myself that it was certainly Photoshoped. But then I saw one of the grainy pics (the one you take on a cell phone) of hers on twitter and some advert of a reality TV show she is on and boy was I surprised to look at her svelte figure. Moral of the story, I wanted to know how she had achieved it. This got me thinking on all the other Bollywood moms who achieved the same thing. So I did some research and this post is about her and some of the hottest moms in Bollywood and their postpartum weight loss secret. It’s certainly tough to follow but not impossible. So here we go starting with our very on Mrs. Kundra Shilpa Shetty Kundra She gave birth to ...

Trial Rooms can make you thin

No this is not a name of a workout, but what I mean is an actual trial room... those tiny booths in stores with huge mirrors and space to try clothes on, yes that’s what I mean. I love shopping trying on new clothes and styles or should I say loved until because earlier I could fit into a size zero skirt and totally rock it. But now shopping is dreadful. So hubby dearest and I were out shopping yesterday for tees and just random women clothes and there was a sale at my favorite store. In all the excitement I just went picking everything I saw and liked and walked into the trial room with a armload of clothes.  And then the horrible happened, I tried 10 different outfits and I dint fit into any of them.  And the ones that I managed to squeeze into accentuated the bulges and tires. So I send hubby on the hunt for bigger sizes, and then even bigger. By the time I had change into bigger bulkier clothes I was close to tears and hated everything I chose. I hated myself...

The Long Hiatus and Back

Image
The last time I wrote was a short post about how crazy life had gotten. And after a month long of craziness I have finally found time to write and relax (maybe a little bit). There was so much happening around me this past month, even my showers have been 5 minutes long with sweltering   Indian   summer heat . So what happened, lots, to begin with my maid walked in one day as usual more than 2 hours late. The usual morning cooking cleaning madness, I asked her about it and what does she do…… tell me that   “ why are you   making a big deal about it , I am just late today not every day”. That certainly was the last nail in the coffin and I told her not so many words to F@#! Off. Seriously, she walks in and walks out at whatever time she pleases and expects me to keep up with her incompetency and worse her terrible attitude. All that said I was stuck with a no maid, but I said what the F@#! I will do it all myself. And guess what I survived and entire month witho...
